Malemnganba's killer identified: Pambei-led UNLF

Imphal, February 16 2025: Apart from clarifying that it is unrelated with the killing of Laishram Malemnganba of Moirangkampu Awang Leikai on February 10, the Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) claimed to be aware about identity of culprits involved in slaying the teenager.

Placing a brief report of the investigation conducted by the Front regarding the fatal incident to public, a Pambei-led UNLF statement identified the main culprit as Huiningsubam Yumlingba alias Poireinganba (Ser No.2298/35) of Lamboi Khul, Imphal East.

Poireinganba had completed the Basic Military Training (BMT) in July, 2009 in the 35th batch but fled as he was unfit to be MPA.

However, Poireinganba approached the organisation for re-joining after the conflict on May 3, 2023 and accordingly he was allowed to work for few months on trial basis.

During the trial period, Poireinganba was found having covert link with another organisation and was issued stern warning for violation of the UNLF's norms.

After this incident, Poireinganba took five days leave and left for home on November 3, 2024 .

As he failed to turn up at camp even after the leave period ended, Poireinganba's whereabouts could not be ascertained.

As he remained a fugitive, the Front declared Poireinganba as a deserter and since then he remained unrelated with the party and MPA, the UNLF statement explained.

Strongly condemning the killing of Malemnganba, the UNLF statement issued by department of publicity and education director Charairongba Thokchom also shared pain and grief of Malemnganba's bereaved family.

On the other hand, the UNLF statement clarified that the organisation and its military wing MPA are unrelated with three individuals arrested by Manipur police on February 8 and 14 from two different places.

The arrested individuals namely Khoisnam Ronaldo of Narankonjil, Soram Ngouba alias Sanatomba Meitei of Narankonjil near Chandranadi village and Okram Aboi of Nungoi Awang Leikai are not members of the UNLF, the statement said and appealed people not to use party's name for taking some benefits.

Anyone found using party's name will be punished, the organisation warned.
