Folk drama festival begins

Imphal, May 15 2011:
The 10-day Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2011 hosted by the Manipur Dramatic Union began at the MDU hall, Yaiskul Policelane today.
Dr RK Nimai, commissioner (arts and culture) graced the inaugural function of the festival which was presided by Ksh Ibohal, president of the MDU.
S Bedeshwor, secretary of the Manipur State Kala Academy attended as guest of honour.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Dr RK Nimai expressed concerned over the dying of popularity of the folk drama and said that one of the main factor the dying the art form was advent of television channel and the trend of cinema.
The art can no more unable to catch audience, he added.
