5-kg IED found planted near AR camp; blast averted

Imphal, January 12 2015:
Barely few hours after a hand grenade exploded on Sunday night near a sentry post of 40 Assam Rifles posted inside the campus of Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district, a powerful IED bomb planted by unidentified persons was found just opposite the gate of the camp on Monday morning around 6.30 .
Reports said the bomb weighing around 5-kg was found planted below a small banyan tree.
Just after discovery of the bomb, vehicular movement along the Indo-Burma Road was restricted.
A team of bomb disposal squad of Manipur Police was called in and diffused the bomb at around 9.30 am.
Later, the bomb was disposed off safely at Thoubal Khunnou Firing Range.
According to some AR personnel posted at the camp, one unidentified person approached the AR personnel who were on sentry duty at 6.30 am informing that he spotted a suspicious object containing battery and wire.
When checked by the AR personnel, the object turned out to be a powerful IED bomb.
No organisation has claimed responsibility for the act till the time of filing this report.
