The first priority and goal of Republican Party of India (Athawale) is to ensure the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, declared RPI-A national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam.
Speaking at a programme organised to welcome new members of the party's State Committee held at Meipa Hall, Palace Compound on Sunday, Maheshwar noted that people of Manipur initially had no idea about RPI but it is now recognised by everyone as a political party working to ensure the rights of indigenous people.
ECI has also recognised it as a regional party allowing it work extensively for the betterment of the people at state level, he conveyed.
Expressing firm belief that the new members would help in realising the vision of the party, he stressed that as a citizen of this state, one must be well aware of the ground reality, adding that central leaders would not object to working for the welfare of the state and the people.
Maheshwar also asserted that if any central leader or party high command prohibits him from doing something for the state, he would immediately tender resignation from the party.
