YOSC players to wear 'black bands' to protest crisis

Imphal, January 31 2025: In a symbolic protest demanding an early resolution to the ongoing crisis in the state, players of Youth Organisation Sporting Club (YOSG) will wear black bands on their wrists during the opening match of Manipur State League on Saturday.

Announcing this during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Friday, YOSC genera secretary Konsam Victor Pamuba stated that the protest aims to press for a swift resolution to the crisis and to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.

The black bands will serve as a visual appeal to authorities and the public, urging immediate action on the issue, he said.

He highlighted that the Manipur State League is the second-highest football league in the state, following the Premier League, and is participated by players from across the state.

YOSC's squad itself comprises players from both the hills and the valley, reflecting the spirit of unity through sports, maintained the secretary.

Further stating that the team, which suffered a major setback due to the crisis that erupted on May 3, 2023, has regrouped recently and is now prepared to compete in the tournament, Konsam Victor informed that prior to the kick-off, YOSC players will pay homage to those who lost their lives defending the territorial integrity of Manipur.

As part of the symbolic protest, the players will wear black bands on their left wrists throughout the match.

Pamuba also urged players of Manipur participating in national and international competitions to wear simi lar black bands during their matches as a mark of solidarity.

He expressed hope that such gestures would draw global attention to the crisis and reinforce the call for its early resolution.
