Imphal, September 02 2014:
Naga People's Front (NPF), Ukhrul Division has strongly condemned the violence unleashed upon the unarmed civilians by the police which resulted in the death of two innocent persons and injuring scores of other on August 30 at Ukhrul district headquarters.
In a statement, General Secretary of NPF Ukhrul division Wungnaoshang A Shimray said that the party viewed the August 30 incident as a deliberate act of the Manipur Government because despite having demonstrated the resentment over promulgation of Section 14 CrPC and deployment of additional State security forces, the Government was very adamant to stick to their approach and kept sending additional forces unabated in Ukhrul town.
The popular demand for lifting of Section 144 CrPC and withdrawal of IRBs and Cdos from the town was never heeded.
Had the Government shed its arrogant attitude and seriously considered the collective voice of the people such ugly incident could have been averted in the interest and common good of all.
The Government in its utter negligence did not assess the ground reality in the first place but simply prolonged the imposition of Section 144 CrPC much against the wishes of the people.
Instead, the Government goes on a happy ride by sending State security forces on the pretext of maintaining law and over vis-avis providing security o the life of the people.
But in the real sense, it was the case of abusing power and show of might by the people.
The people had expressed through peaceful demonstration that there was no law and order problem and demanded the immediate revocation of the CrPC and withdrawal of IRBs and Cdos from the district, Wungnaoshang said.
The Government is responsible for the despicable and brutal act, and therefore Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam should be brought to justice, Wungnaoshang demanded.
He also conveyed NPF UKhrul division's condolence to the bereaved family members of Ramkashing Vashi and Mayopam Ramror and prayer for early recovery of those injured.
