International Day of Persons with Disabilities observed

Social Welfare Department in collaboration Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE) organised International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The observance was attended by Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam and State Commissioner for Persons with Disability W Bihari among others.
During the observance, blankets, wheelchairs, hearing aids and smartphones were distributed to 850 persons with disabilities.
Similarly, Rotary Club of Imphal and Polo City Imphal, and Spastic Society of Manipur observed International Day of Person with Disabilities at Spastic Society campus located at Narankonjin Langthabal Kunja.
The observance was attended by Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam, Rotary Club of Imphal president Saratchandra Singh Phijam, Polo City president Sovid Elangbam and Society's secretary Laishram Tokendra Ricky.
Shija Hospitals & Research Institute, Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Lam-deng and Advocate Leisangthem Roshmani Memorial Trust also observed International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Shija auditorium.

The observance held on this year theme, "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future", highlighted the critical need to empower individuals with disabilities to take on leadership roles in the health sector and beyond.
In a release, Shija informed that the observance was attended by HD Foundation chairman Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh, Shija Hospitals chairman and managing director Dr Palin Khundongbam, HD Foundation secretary general Laishram Bina Devi, Shija Hospitals consultant paediatrician Dr Sachikumar Kh and consultant psychiatrist Dr Meesha H.During the event, Dr Palin reaffirmed the hospital s commitment to fostering inclusivity, enabling leadership opportunities, and providing support for persons with disabilities, stressing the responsibility to assist those suffering in silence through Shija Hospitals and Shija Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jasowanta underscored the significance, of collaborative efforts in breaking barriers and promoting inclusivity, while Dr Sachikumar emphasised on the importance of early detection and intervention for children with potential special needs to ensure equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Dr Meesha, meanwhile, highlighted the critical need to address the stigma that adversely impacts the mental health of individuals with disabilities.
Children with disabilities from HD Foundation presented variety of performances, the release continued, while adding that the programme concluded with the recognition of outstanding students with disabilities who excelled in the class 10 and 12 board examinations.
Inclusive Education for Disabilities (IED) and ZEO Zone-II, Imphal East, Porompat also organised International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the ZEO office.
The observance was attended by ZEO Mayengbam Premchand, special teacher Sorokhaibam Tonsana Devi and IED co-ordinator Chakpram Nimol as presidium members.
