Imphal, October 29 2011:
Along with submitting a representation to the President of India on behalf of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC), titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has appealed to SHDDC for giving some time for the President to make necessary mobilization and set the action in motion.
In a letter addressed to the President of SHDDC, P Tomcha Meetei, who is the Legal Advisor to His Highness, Leishemba Sanajaoba, the King of Manipur conveyed that after perusal of the memorandum submitted by SHDDC, an appeal to the President of India had been submitted on behalf of His Highness, Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, the King of Manipur on October 26, and the copy of the said appeal had also been forwarded to the Governor of Manipur.
In the said appeal, the legal status of Sadar Hills under Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act, 1971 had been clearly indicated, Tomcha disclosed, adding 'as we are now governed by the Constitution of India and the law of the land, we are subject to the rule of law' .
His Highness, the Maharaja of Manipur has a firm believe that Her Excellency, the President of India will invoke her authority as enshrined in Article 371-C of the Constitution of India and give necessary direction to His Excellency, the Governor of Manipur to do justice to the people of Sadar hills as per the provisions of the said Act of 1971, the Legal Advisor said.
Conveying a message from His Highness, the Maharaja of Manipur, the Legal Advisor observed that His Highness will always stand for the integrity and unity of the Manipuri Nation consisting of the hill and plain people.
So, His Highness, the Maharaja of Manipur desires to appeal to the SHDDC that, it is necessary to give some time for the President of India to make necessary mobilization and to set necessary action in motion.
At the same time, His Highness, the Maharaja of Manipur has taken serious note of the fact that the economic and counter blockade for the last few months has caused serious scarcity of most of the commodities and their prices are soaring beyond the means of the common people.
Unless, normalcy is restored without undue delay, a serious humanitarian crisis of unknown proportion will befall our state leading to starvation of the common people, which may lead to anarchy and lawlessness.
"In view of the seriousness of the situation, His Highness, the Maharaja of Manipur, appeals to all concerned to suspend the economic blockade and counter blockade and to fight for the rule of law to prevail in our state", the Legal Advisor added in the letter written on behalf of the titular king to the President of SHDDC.
