SK oil business booming in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, May 23 2012: Along with the office of the Food and Civil Department, Tamenglong appointing as many as 96 agents to distribute Kerosene (SK) oil to the people, the business of SK oil has become most profitable business in the district these days.

This came to light during an exclusive survey conducted by Hueiyen Lanpao.

During the course of the survey, an official disclosed that the agents are given SK oil at the control rate of Rs 17 per litre and they are expected to sell the same at Rs 19 to Rs 25 per litre in town areas.

However, outside the town areas, agent may sell one litre of SK oil at Rs 30.The agents are supposed to get profit of Rs 2 to Rs 3 per litre as per government guidelines.

Surprisingly, the agents are selling the SK oil at Rs 30 to Rs 35 per litres to local people and at Rs 50 per litre to outsiders.

The general public as well as the social organizations, which are working for the welfare of the people, also remained silent over the 'daylight robbery' in SK oil business.

Out of the 96 SK oil agents in the district, Tamenglong block has 53, Tousem block has 11 agents, Tamei has 7 agents and Nungba block has 25 SK oil agents.

According to a reliable source, the government has not yet fixed the SK oil allocation for the district.

In previous years, the district received 86 kilo litres of SK oil for the whole district.

The quotas for the agents are 39,680 litres of SK oil.

While the MLA quota has 6000 litres of SK oil, the remaining is reserved for some important persons and government departments.

The demand for SK oil has increased day by day as there was no electricity in the district.

Some people purchase SK oil for cooking as well as for lighting their houses.
