Imphal, May 14 2025:
Restriction imposed on the Meetei community from passing through Kuki inhabited areas en-route to the upcoming Shirui Lily Festival is similar to fencing the blood and brotherhood relation between the Meeteis and Tangkhuls, stated Republican Party of India (RPI-Athawale) state president cum national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam.
Addressing a gathering at the felicitation function of newly appointed office bearers of RPI-Athawale Manipur state youth committee at Meipa Hall, Palace Compound on Wednesday, Maheshwar noted hectic preparations being made for the smooth conduct of Shirui Lily festival with the participation of all the communities of the state.
However, it was very unfortunate that those trying to balkanise Manipur imposed restriction on the Meeteis from crossing their village while going for the festival.
According to Maheshwar, Shirui Lily festival is being organised by the Nagas particularly the Tangkhuls but the restriction specifically imposed on the Meeteis from participating in the festival cannot be taken lightly.
Such stricture is like putting barrier on brdtherly relation between the Tangkhuls and Meeteis.
No one will accept such restriction and it is too late to bring an understanding on separatist movement, he said and stressed the need for youth to take active role in saving the motherland and bring a change by rectifying existing political system.
The function was also attended by RPI-Athawale) Manipur working president Laitonjam Haridas Singh, vice president Sapam Kangleipal and other party functionaries like Dr Haobijam Gitajen Singh, Sapam Bila, Bokul Sharma and Maibam Roshnikumar.
