No talks with militant outfits indulging in violence: Rajnath
Source: Hueiyen News Service / Agencies

Guwahati, January 12 2015: There will be no talk whatsoever with any group or organization which indulges in acts of violence, union home minister Rajnath Singh said here on Monday.

Expressing concern over growing violence, Singh also said that the nation was passing through a critical phase and sought cooperation of the youth in rooting out insurgency and violence.

According to a report by Indian Express, the Home Minister said: "I must make it clear that there is no place for violence in a democracy.

Doors for negotiated settlements are open only for groups that do not indulge violence.

The government cannot remain a silent spectator to any acts of violence" .

He was directly referring to the incidents of five simultaneous incidents of violence in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts in Assam on December 23 that had left over 80 people dead, 63 of them belonging to the Adivasi communities.

Asking the people of the Northeastern states, and particularly the youth, not to allow any form of violence and extortion to take place in the region, the union home minister also said that there was no disconnect between the Northeast region and the rest of India.

"If Kashmir is India's crown, then the North-east is the country's strong arm.

If any foreign force makes any attempt to cause harm to the nation, this strong arm will give a befitting reply," he said.

The home minister also the youth to launch an effective campaign against the growing menace of drug addiction.

Terming unemployment as a major problem, Singh said the Centre sought cooperation of the state governments in addressing this and other problems.

The Centre's 'Make in India' initiative was one such initiative that would help create huge job opportunities for the youth and wean them away from digressions, he said.

Complimenting the participants of the National Youth Festival, the home minister also asked them to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, who he said had taught that the whole world was a family.

The country's youth were capable of transforming India into a global superpower, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi asked the participants of the youth festival who came from different parts of the country to act as "ambassadors of Assam" and spread the message across the country that Assam is a beautiful place with peace-loving people.

"You young friends on return to your respective states should tell that Assam is a beautiful place with beautiful people.

I assign you all the task of becoming ambassadors of Assam," Gogoi said.

Union minister of state for Information and Broadcasting Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore on his part said India held the pool of youth power in the world.

"If the 40 crore youth of our nation internalise the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, then no force can stop India from being a superpower," he said.
