Imphal, October 26 2015:
United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) after taking into account all the "undesirable situations" in the land, has decided not to celebrate Chavang Kut this year.
In a statement, UKLF Information and Publicity Secretary MP Haokip said that after deep thoughts over the martyrdom of 9 persons from Kuki community who sacrificed their precious live for the protection of their land and the people and considering that their mortal remains remain unburied; Joumol Village incident and the hardships faced by people due to rain, flood and landslides, it has been opined that this year Kut should be observed in prayers asking for the Almighty's forgiveness instead of indulging in celebrations and merry makings.
UKLF said skipping Kut celebration in a particular year would not bring any problem and misfortune.
Chavang Kut celebration will not "give us separate administration" but emotional and physical unity and integrity among all the stakeholders would help in achieving the set goal, said ULKF.
The outfit appealed the people particularly that of Chandel district to hold family prayers on November 1, 2015 instead of celebrating Chavang Kut with "pomp and show" .
