Imphal, January 11 2018:
The All Manipur Muslim Organisations Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC) has alleged that Minority and Other Backward Classes (MOBC) Directorate has become a den of corruption and malpractice and the State Government has utterly failed to curb such practices.
Speaking to media persons at its office at Hatta today, its president SM Jalal said that AMMOCOC has been working tirelessly to change the working of the Directorate, which was established to improve the socioeconomic conditions of Minorities and OBCs, but nothing has changed at all.
The pre-matric scholarship of the financial year 2013-14 has not been distributed till date.
As for the pre and post-matric scholarships of the year 2016-17, the Director of MOBC has refused to deposit the scholarships to the accounts of the students claiming that the beneficiaries failed to mention their surnames in the OBC certificates, he alleged.
Jalal explained that Meitei Pangals have around 62 surnames but the use of surnames is not mandatory for the community.
Pointing out that the Director had already distributed the scholarship funds for the year 2015-16 based on the said OBC certificates, the AMMOCOC president asked if all those people pursuing higher studies or even getting employed using the said certificates which do not include surnames, will be disqualified/fired.
Condemning the action of the MOBC's Director, Jalal claimed that the said action is unethical, unreasonable, racist as well as anti-minority.
