MPCB receives Rs 3 crore for environment conservation

Thoubal, January 11 2018: Manipur Pollution Control Board Chairman Radhakishore has stated that the drastic changes in environment and the ecosystem can be fought, not only by means of the Government's programmes and policies, but also through the joint initiative and movement of the public.

He said that the Central Pollution Control Board has sanctioned around Rs 3 crore to the Manipur Pollution Control Board for organising various awareness programmes, cleanliness drives as well as to sensitise the public, especially the students of the State, regarding the drive to save and protect the environment.

In connection with the numerous Prakriti Paryavaran aur Hum campaign launched under the Mission of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, at different parts of the country, the Forest and Environment, Manipur Pollution Control Board, National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corp (NCC) and Thoubal Municipal Council carried out a cleanliness drive at Thoubal bazar and Thoubal riverbank.

The campaign was launched under the guidance of MPCB Chairman Radhakishore and Thoubal Municipal Council Chairperson Th Shyamo Singh, reports our correspondent.

Manipur Pollution Control Board EE, Kh Premkanta Singh, AEE M Bangajit Singh and Scientist Kh Tomba Singh were present at the campaign.

Speaking to media persons, Radhakishore said that the campaign is based on 'Save nature, save environment, save river'. Considering the drastic and rapid changes in the environment, he urged all to take part in saving and preserving balance in the ecosystem.

Radhakishore also appealed to Thoubal Municipal Council to submit reports and details on garbage disposal, problems faced by the Council etc, and assured that the reports will be thoroughly discussed with the Department concerned so as to ensure a proper disposal site.

The cycle rally by a Manipuri individual, from Delhi to Imphal, just to spread awareness on pollution, clearly provides an example on how pollution has worsened in the country, he asserted while adding that the people have to adopt clean living in order to contribute their part in decreasing the pollution in the State as well as in the country.

Thoubal would also receive its share of the fund so that numerous programmes and drives are launched at the earliest, Radhakishore added.

On the other hand, Manipur Pollution Control Board in association with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Government of India also organised a cleanliness campaign in and around Keibul Lamjao National Park today in connection with the campaign.

The nation-wide campaign which started today at Bishnupur district will also be organised in Imphal West, Thoubal and Ukhrul district.

110 NCC cadet volunteers of Moirang College along with officials of the forest department took part in the cleanliness campaign.

The campaign also witnessed an environmental and wildlife awareness rally where students of different coleges and schools participated.

Chairman MPCB, L Radhakishor Singh stressed the need to preserve ecological balance for benefits of the humankind.

Pointing out human encroachment as the reason behind deterioration of nature, he advocates the need to protect wildlife and sustain the very environmental balance that holds the survival of all life on earth.

He also urged the people of Bishnupur district to consider the importance of the campaign and to take active participation so as to ensure a clean healthy environment for all.
