Centre apprised of Ukhrul situation daily: Gaikhangam

Home Minister Gaikhangam has expressed anguish over the various agitations going on both in the valley districts and in the hill districts and said that such developments are unhealthy and would bring negative impact in the state.
He was talking to media persons after a meeting to review the law and order situation in the State along with Director General of Police, Additional Director of Police and other concerned officers.
On the ongoing agitations in the valley districts demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state, Gaikhangam maintained that the State Government has been doing all its best to help implement ILP in the state.
Appealing the people to understand what the state government is doing in the regard, Gaikhangam recalled that the Chief Minister had said in the just concluded assembly session that the state government representatives along with the Joint Co-ordination on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) and civil society leaders will go New Delhi to apprise the Central leaders including the Prime Minister on the matter after the Parliament Session gets over on August 8 .
He also reminded about the two resolutions taken in the State Assembly on implementation of the ILP in the state.
Regarding the 28 women detained in the judicial custody, Gaikhangam said since these women are in the judicial custody they are now beyond the jurisdiction of the state government.
He said the law of the land will deal the matter accordingly and they can be freed on bail only.
"However, since they demanded for unconditional release it may not be possible as the land of the law will not allow such thing," he added.
On the situation in Ukhrul and the series of actions taken up by Naga organisations in the aftermath of the killing of Autonomous District Council (ADC) member Ngalangzat Malue on July 12, the Home Minister noted that instead of condemning the killing some organisations are sternly objecting to the steps taken up by the state government.
"Since there is a government in place we cannot be a mute spectator to such killings, " he said, while reiterating that clamping of Section 144 of the CrPC in Ukhrul is a pre-emptive measure to maintain law and order situation.
"There has been not s single case of problem because of the clamping of CrPC 144 in Ukhrul as the people are free to carry out normal chores as usual," he pointed out.
The Home Minister also informed that the report on the situation in UKhrul district is being sent to the Centre every day.
On the United Naga Council (UNC)'s announcement to ban construction works on national projects in 'Naga areas' of Manipur, the Home Minister termed it very unfortunate and asserted that such activity amounts to disruption of developmental works in the state.
He appealed to the UNC to withdraw its decision.
