The District police of Churachandpur has declared the month of August as 'anti-drink month' in their attempt to contain drunk-related pandemonium and accidents, promising to start a special drive to suppress the sale and consumption of malt that was available abundantly in the market but prohibited by law.
The police initiative according to sources was meant to dissuade drinking, which of late is the major source of crime which often draws the police intervention.
Many of the road mishaps that are at times fatal were also attributed to drunk driving and the Police have anticipated that the anti-drinking month will contain both the crime and road mishaps to an extent.
Police have released the contact number of the district Police Control Room, 03874-233239, soliciting citizens to call them or tip them off on locations of, drunken related incident or people selling or consuming liquor.
