State native BSF trooper dies in Pak shelling

Imphal, May 11 2025:
Border Security Force constable Deepak Chingakham (25) of Yairipok Yambem Mathak Leikai on Sunday evening succumbed to injuries suffered during cross-border shelling by Pakistani forces, hours after both sides agreed to a ceasefire understanding following US intervention.
Deepak, a member of the 7th battalion BSF deployed at the Kharkola border operating post along the international boundary in RS Pura Sector, was wounded when artillery and drone strikes targeted multiple border areas on Saturday night.
Nine BSF personnel including Deepak were injured in the attacks.
He was evacuated to the military hospital at Satwari, Jammu, but passed away around 5:30 pm on Sunday.
He joined the BSF as constable on April 1, 2021 .
In a post on X, the official BSF handle paid tribute to Deepak's ultimate sacrifice: "DG BSF and All Ranks salute the supreme sacrifice made by Constable Deepak Chingakham in the line of duty.
He was injured in cross border fire by Pakistan on 10th May 2025 along the International Boundary in RS Pura area, Jammu.
He succumbed to his injuries today on 11th May 2025 .

Deepak's death came just hours after officials in Islamabad and New Delhi declared an understanding to cease all hostilities following a pact brokered by the United States to ease tensions between the neighbouring countries.
Despite that announcement, Pakistani forces targeted several border areas in multiple states on Saturday night, marking a sharp reversal.
Former chief minister N Biren also took to X to express his grief and solidarity.
"Deeply saddened by the martyrdom of BSF Brave-heart Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham, who sustained fatal injuries during cross border firing from Pakistan in the R S Pura Sector and laid down his life in the line of duty.
He was a proud son of Manipur, and as a Manipuri-Meetei, his courage and devotion to the nation reflect the unwavering commitment of our people to protect and serve.
We salute the armed forces for their relentless dedication and bravery.
We stand with the family of Constable Deepak in this difficult time and will extend all possible support.
His sacrifice will always be remembered with honour and pride," Biren wrote.
