Directorate assures to send teacher by April 15, students withdraw protest

Imphal, April 08 2025: The Directorate of University & Higher Education has assured to depute the required teacher for Economics Department at Mayai Lambi College by April 15.Following this, the students of the college have suspended their protest which began on March 27.As a part of their protest, the students had locked the College yesterday.

In response, a team of Wangoi police arrived at the College and attempted to break open the lock resulting in an altercation between police personnel and students today.

The students condemned the act and shouted various slogans voicing their demand.

At this juncture, the Directorate of University & Higher Education invited the students for a dialogue.

Following this, five members of the Mayai Lambi College Students' Union met with the Additional Director who assured them that a teacher for the Economics Department will be assigned by April 15.Though the protest has been withdrawn, if the authority fails to depute the teacher by the stipulated date, then the students are prepared to resume the protests, said Ichaoba Wairokpam, general secretary, Mayai Lambi College Students' Union.
