UG cadres netted; arms, explosives seized

Imphal, May 06 2025: Security forces apprehended several cadres of proscribed insurgent outfits in multiple operations across the state in the last two days, and recovered several weapons, explosives, etc.

According to a police control room statement, three cadres of KCP (PWG) identified as Naorem Rabichan-dra (30) of Tentha Khunjao Makha Leikai, Yengkokpam Premchand (22) of Thoubal Athokpam Sangdabung, and Ningthoukhongjam Bikash of Moirang Khunou Mamang Sabal, were arrested from Keirao Wangkhem and adjoining areas under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district.

Firearms including rifles, a wireless communication set, and large quantity of live ammunition were seized from their possession.

In a separate operation at Mantripukhri French Colony under Heingang PS, Imphal East, four more KCP (PWG) cadres were rounded up along with arms and other items.

The captives identified as Wahengbam Bimal (25) of Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, Sorenshangbam Sanjana (25) of Mongsangei Mayai Leikai, Senjam James (30) of Icham Khunou currently residing at Elangbam Leikai, and Wangkheimayum Tarun (24) of Sagolband Tera Loukham Leirak, face charge of threatening public by placing explosives across valley areas.

The recovered items included pistols with ammunition, demand letters, mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, hand gloves, a camouflage cap, a wallet with Rs 90 cash, and a two-wheeler.

Police also arrested a PLA member identified as Moiranthem Oken alias Somorjit (55) of Khurai Kongpal Laishram Leikai from Sawombung Kabui Khunjao near Sawombung Bridge under Lamlai PS.

He was allegedly involved in extortion in Imphal markets.

One 9mm'pistol with magazines and 13 rounds, a grenade, a detonator, mobile phones, and a sling bag have been recovered from him.

Another KCP (PWG) cadre, identified as Sanabam Ratan (60) of Keibung Oinam Leikai under Singjamei PS, was arrested from the locality along with recovery of two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card.

two cadres of another armed organisation from an abandoned hut at Wangjing Awang Leikai in Thoubal district.

The accused are identified as Soibam Adit (19) of Wangjing Hodamba Mamang Leikai, and Ningthoujam Ngairamba (19) of Heirok Part-1 Heitupokpi Mamang Leikai.

They were allegedly involved in extortion activities and police recovered mobile phones, SIM cards, Aadhaar and PAN cards, and a wallet from their possession.

In another arrest made on Sunday, a KCP (Taibanganba) cadre, identified as Takhellambam Ibochouba alias Dumba (41) of Wangoo Terakhong Khok Makhong, Kakching district, was rounded up from Angan Ching crossing near MSPDCL Power House under Kakching PS.

One mobile phone was seized from him.

In two separate recoveries, security forces found a large cache of weapons and equipment.

From Phonsenphai Gap near Kwakta Ward No 8 under Phougakchao Ikhai PS, the recoveries include firearms, ammunition of different calibres, bulletproof vests, plates, and helmets.

In another operation at Heibonglok Hill under Sekmai PS, firearms, grenades, a mortar bomb, protective vests, and makeshift bulletproof materials were recovered.

Meanwhile, during a special drive conducted on Sunday, police recovered six stolen vehicles and removed tinted films from 57 vehicles across the state.
