Govt rejects X post on school affiliation

Apropos the post of one Dr Lamtinthang Haokip on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday claiming that 20 educational institutions from Churachandpur and 16 from Kangpokpi have been affiliated to the CBSE, the Department of Education (S) has clarified that the state government has not issued any No Objection Certificate (NOC) for affiliation with CBSE to any of the institutions in the two districts since May, 2023 .
Apart from the clarification issued by the Department, education minister Th Basanta Kumar said that the state government has not given any NOC to any school for affiliation with CBSE after the violence broke out in the state on May 3 .
After the X post of Dr Lamtinthang Haokip went viral on social media, an official team led by education minister Th Basanta Kumar met secretary of the ministry of education and submitted a written communique seeking clarification on the matter.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle over the phone, the minister informed that he along with an official team met ministry officials after the X post in question went viral on social media.
As per existing rules, no educational institution can be affiliated with CBSE without NOC from the respective state government.
The last time the state government issued NOC was in May 2020 and after that the government has not issued NOC to any educational institutions including during the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the state.
If there was any such issuance, he, as a minister concerned, is ready to resign from his post, Basanta affirmed.
Taking the matter seriously, he said that a joint meeting of the senior officials of the state education department and CBSE chairman will be held on Saturday.
In case there was any new affiliation by flouting rules, steps will be taken up to nullify such affiliation and any person involved in such fraudulent process will be dealt with accordingly, he said.
On the other hand, upon checking the official website of CBSE, TPC found 16 schools in Kangpokpi and 19 in Churachandpur in the affiliation list of the central board.
Of them, nine schools in Kangpokpi and six in Churachandpur were found having affiliation date with CBSE starting from April 1, 2024 .
Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, on his X post said that "20 educational institutions (high schools and higher secondary schools) from Churachandpur and 16 from Kangpokpi districts are successfully affiliated to CBSE" .
