Governor briefed on prospect of tea plantation in state

A team of Macley Tea India Private Limited led by Milan Koijam called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday evening and briefed her about the viability of taking up large scale plantation of tea in Manipur.
The team apprised the Governor that tea plantation can be taken up in Manipur as an alternative to poppy cultivation which has become a big issue in the state.
The Governor appreciated the proposal and asked them to submit a detailed project proposal to the Raj Bhavan and also to the government so that it could be discussed and implemented, if possible.
Newly appointed Manipur State Kala Akademi secretary Sunanda Thokchom on Friday also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey, who is the chairperson of the Akademi while representatives of Teli Association, Manipur led by Ashok Prasad Sahu along with four other members called on the Governor and urged her to initiate peace process for restoring normalcy in the state.
They pointed out that all sections of society including the Telis have been affected by the conflict which broke out on May 3 and people have been suffering in many ways.
They continued that the community has been inhabiting in the state for last many decades and therefore they will contribute their best efforts in bringing back peace and normalcy.
They also thanked the Governor for her efforts towards bringing back peace and harmony in the state.
The Governor, while welcoming their suggestions, conveyed that discussions are going on with the CSOs of both the warring communities for bringing an amicable solution to the issue and all stakeholders should co-operate the government in this regard.
She also stated that women leaders have been convinced to extend their support to the government so that a congenial atmosphere for initiating dialogue process could be created.
The Governor then asked the visiting representatives to extend their support in the effort of restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
