Representatives of tea company, Teli Association, MSKA call on Governor

A team of Mecley Tea India Private Limited called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey today at Raj Bhavan briefed her about the viability of large scale plantation of tea in Manipur.
The team led by Milan Koijam informed the Governor that tea plantation can be taken up in Manipur and it can be an alternative to poppy cultivation which has become a big issue in the State.
Expressing appreciation for their proposal, Governor Anusuiya instructed them to submit a detailed project proposal to Raj Bhavan and the Government so that it can be discussed and implemented, if possible, said a statement issued by the Governor's PRO.
In addition, representatives of Teli Association, Manipur led by Ashok Prasad Sahu along with four other members also called on the Governor and requested her to initiate a peace process to restore peace in the State.
Maintaining that all sections of society including the Telis have been affected by the unrest, they assured that the community will contribute their best efforts in restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
While welcoming their suggestions, the Governor said that discussions are going on with the CSOs of both the communities to bring an amicable solution to the issue and all stakeholders should also cooperate with the Government in this regard.
She added that women leaders have also been urged to extend their support to the Government so that a congenial atmosphere for initiating dialogue can be created.
The Governor then asked the visiting representatives to extend their support in the run up for restoration of peace and normalcy.
Lastly, newly appointed secretary of Manipur State Kala Akademi Sunanda Thokchom also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan this evening.
Notably, the Governor is the Chairperson of the Akademi.
