Imphal, May 06 2009: A formal meeting programme of the new United Committee Manipur (UCM) executive members, its component members, subsidiary and affiliated organisations was held today at the at the Conference Hall of UCM office, Lamphelpat.

The programme was attended by Retired Lecturer H Kulla, former UCM President K Lanngamba, and the newly appointed UCM President Yumnamcha Dilipkumar as the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively.

Delivering his speech, retired lecturer H Kulla said that the UCM was formed during the peoples' movement against the declaration of government of India and NSCN (IM) ceasefire 'without territorial limit' in 2001.He said then there was apprehension that the territorial integrity of Manipur would break.

But now some Nagas have stood for the protection of Manipur's territorial integrity though whether we have trusted each other or not is still a big question, H Kulla asserts.

He said that there has been misconception by some hill brethren that developmental works in the valley is progressing while the hill areas remain neglected.

He pointed out that the truth is that the developmental works sanctioned in the hills were never materialised while stressing on the need to inform the people on the matter.

Although the revolutionary movement of Manipur is justified historically, the same is ban through the prism of the government of India coupled with the presence of over 40 armed groups in the state casting the revolutionary movement in the bad light.

He asked the revolutionary groups to stop their movement if they could not unite as one.

He said that in the present situation of Manipur, the role of UCM is wide.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly appointed UCM President Yumnamcha Dilipkumar pledged that the UCM will continue to strive for the unity of the people even if the government of India has played a divisive role to break up the unity of the various communities.

He said that the UCM had not been occupying Kekrupat to obtain Patta, but to look after the place.

And now it has left the place.

He further said that the UCM will organise the Great June Uprising Day this year too at Kekrupat.

A meeting will be held on May 10 to form the sub committee for the observance programme while calling for the cooperation of the people like in previous years.
