Wanglee trade centre to boost border trade

Imphal, May 05 2015 : To foster trade activities at Indo-Myanmar border areas and bring about economic development in the remote areas, a newly developed trade centre called the Krungket Trade Centre was inaugurated on May 3 at Wanglee village located about 125 Kms away from Imphal under Kasom Khullen sub-division of Ukhrul district.

Surrounding villages located at the border areas of Ukhrul district along with neighbouring villagers of Phayang and Tongchao of Myanmar took part at the inaugural function.

UCM president Elangbam Johnson inaugurated the trade centre by hoisting the inaugural flag of the Krungket Trade Centre.

Even though the trade centre has not yet been officially recommended by the authorities concerned of the neighbouring countries, villagers of both sides, having realized that trade activities would bring about economic upliftment in the areas, are equally enthusiastic to make the trade centre a success story.

Speaking at the inaugural function, E Johnson said that such steps taken up by the villagers should be encouraged by every section of the society.

Stating that the trade centre would bring in various development projects in the area when it becomes an official trade centre, he urged the villagers to work relentlessly until the Krungket Trade Centre is made an official trade centre.

AMSU president S Subhaschandra added that from time immemorial Manipur has been sharing trade relations with Myanmar.

"To bring back the trade relations we once had with Myanmar, we must work on opening more of such trade centres along the border areas", he added.

Chairman of BADA, Julia stated that people of Manipur and Myanmar share blood relationship, and such trade centres would surely make the relation even more stronger.

She further said that even though the State Govt may not have taken the initiative such action from the villagers of both sides would surely make the trade centre a success.

Village chiefs from Myanmar commented that development in education and economy can be realized through trade activities.

If the attachment and relationship that people on both sides of the political boundary once shared is made even more stronger, peace and development would surely prevail in the area.

Village headman of Wanglee village T Dauntak urged the people to support the steps taken up by villagers to open the Krungket Trade Centre.

As part of the inaugural function of Krungket Trade Centre, UCM donated a solar lamp to villagers of Wanglee.
