Rs 15 crores spent yearly on securities for ex-Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats

Imphal, December 20 2012:
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, informed the State Assembly today that around Rs 14,93,88,588 are being spent on a yearly basis by the State in providing personnel security guards, home guards and PSOs to ex-Ministers, MLAs, bureaucrats and Civil officers.
Gaikhangam was responding to a question raised by Opposition MLA L Ibomcha during the Question hour session on the last day of the State Assembly today.
Raising the question, MLA L Ibomcha charged the State Government with spending a huge amount of money in providing securities to ex-Ministers and MLAs, which are being used by them as a means to drive away people who came to get back money taken from them by the ex-Ministers or MLAs.
Responding to the question, Deputy Chief Minister stated that the security provided is being reviewed after every six months.
If the need to provide security rises, they are being provided, otherwise, the securities are withdrawn.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Nandakumar, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that the canal which is being constructed from Lamboi Khongnangkhong to Chorus Repertory Theatre would be completed by the beginning of 2013 .
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip, while responding to a question raised by MLA Th Shyamkumar, informed the House that the construction of the right main canal of Thoubal Barrage is targeted to be completed by March 2015 .
