Dziiko dispute DC Senapati meets Kohima counterpart

Sensing escalation of tension in the ongoing contention between Mao Council and Southern Angami People's Organization (SAPO) over Dziiko Valley, Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus, along with Superintendent of Police K Kabib and Tadubi SDO Ganguiliu Gangmei met their Kohima counterparts at Khuzama police station today.
The meeting of the two districts' DCs, SPs and SDOs were initiated after disturbing activities of Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) continued unabated since the last many days.
After incidents of picking out Mao people from vehicles and issuing quite notice to Mao people staying in SAPO jurisdiction, two innocent persons were assaulted , two mobile phones seized and five private vehicles belonging to Mao community were vandalized at Jakhama at around 3.45 pm on Monday and that same evening two trucks bound for Manipur were also partially damaged by suspected SAYO volunteers.
According to sources, DC Jacintha and her team expressed deep concern over the ongoing SAYO activities where innocent civilians were harassed and vehicles damaged.
She has also called for peaceful resolution of the present issue between SAPO and Mao Council.
While seeking support and co-operation of her Kohima counterpart to seriously safeguard welfare of the Mao community, the DC also asked the authorities concerned to provide proper security to Manipur bound vehicles.
Kohima DC and SP assured full co-operation and security to tackle the present issue.
Before meeting her counterpart at Khuzama, Nagaland, Jacintha also met the Mao Council leaders at Mao Gate and gave a patient hearing to recent incidents where Mao people were picked out along ethnic lines and harassed physically assaulted and their vehicles damaged on the highway.
The team also inspected those vehicles which were damaged on Monday at Jakhama by SAYO members.
Later the lady IAS officer and her entourage took the road near Mao-gate and reached the disputed site bordering Nagaland which RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa, MLA Dikho and PWD Minister Ratan Kumar had visited last
month.
Sources confirmed that after the State Cabinet team removed those workers and heavy machinery belonging to a Nagaland work agency from the disputed site on June 3, the DC team found no new constructions or machinery at the site.
