Imphal, June 18 2015 :
Some portions of the under construction TB and Leprosy Treatment Centre at Lamlongei in Imphal East were pulled down on Thursday by an order of the National Green Tribunal.
The parts of the foundations and brick walls were constructed by encroaching upon the Reserved Forest area and these were demolished by using excavators around 11:30 am.
A team of Heingang Police, SDO, Porompat, SDC, Heingang and several officials of the Forest and Revenue Departments were present at the site during the demolition.
Lamlongei Yaipha-Thouni Lup secretary Th Ratna told reporters that the Manipur Government acquired 0.956 acre of land in the area for the centre, but later it cut down trees inside the Reserved Forest area to further expand it beyond the allotted land.
The organization then took the help of the National Green Tribunal which subsequently issued an order in this regard on April 6 this year asking the State Government to remove the portions of the under constructions in the encroached land, she said.
