CMO, Ukhrul stresses on the role of women to curb diabetes

Ukhrul, November 15 2017:
Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Ukhrul Dr Mingyaola Vashum, while speaking on the observation World Diabetes Day at old District Hospital, Kamphasom Ukhrul, underlined the role of women in curbing diabetes.
The CMO spoke on the increasing diabetes cases and added that the cause of the alarming rise was due to changing life styles and lack of physical activities.
In order to control diabetes, women can be one of the most affective agents in the contemporary society, the CMO said.
Ukhrul ADC Chairman Dickson Kumrah who attended as chief guest of the event urged the district health workers to give their utmost effort to reach out the awareness at every nook and comers of the district, for timely detection of any ailments.
While Dr Manik Shaiza, resource person of the day, highlighted the increasing number of complaints of diabetes and its prevalence in our society.
He said India ranks second next to China in diabetes record and over 50 million people suffer from diabetes and added that proper diet maintenance, regular exercise, medication and prevention of cholesterol-rich food will ensure a healthy body.
Meanwhile, a screening test was conducted as a part of the function where 25 people were detected with high sugar level out of 130 elderly who participated.
The programme was attended by Medical Superintendent Dr Yuithing Vashum, DIO Dr Kapangring, Councillor Ngamshung and District Leprosy officer Dr Sirawon.
