Imphal, November 05 2011:
A day after the police scuffled with the public in Noney on day one of the 72-hours bandh enforced by Naga organisations, a combined team of the United Naga Council (UNC) and ANSAM visited the areas and took stock of situation by holding a public meeting on Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, according to sources, a joint team of UNC and ANSAM held meeting with the public in Noney and deliberated on future course of action against the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Manipur and Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) .
In the public meeting, both the UNC and ANSAM strongly decried the excesses committed by a combined team of IRB and Manipur Police commandos against the civilians in Noney on Friday.
"The senseless brutality of the communal IRB and police personnelthese in-disciplined and communal forces have turned into a legalized gang of terror and looters," read the press statement also issued last night.
On Friday, six civilians were hurt in scuffle with the police and four vehicles were destroyed in the bandh-related violence in Noney.
The UNC alleged that the entire incident happened without any provocation from the public.
In protest against the state security excess, the UNC had imposed a public curfew from 6 am to 6 pm on November 5 in addition to the ongoing total bandh since November 3 midnight.
This afternoon, sources said, the Naga team also left Noney for Nungba and will hold public meeting on the issue of Sadar Hills.
Further, the UNC appeals to the Naga public for any eventuality in the days to come and get prepared until its aspiration is fulfilled.
