'Industrializing farming sector must'

Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation K Debdutta Sharma has stated that industrializing the farming system in Manipur's horticulture sector is crucial to unlock the State's potential.
He made the statement during a training programme held under the theme "Advance Innovative Technology Revolutionising Horticulture Sector in Manipur under RKVY" at Sanjenthong yesterday.
Addressing the gathering, Debdutta Shanna continued that adopting advanced technology and innovative ideas in the horticulture sector will improve marketing and value chain processing.
State's horticulture potential can be unlocked through industrialized farming, he reterated and added that the State's agro-climatic zone is ideal for growing high-value crops.
He encouraged the farmers to grow high value crops to boost their income.
Co-founder and chief scientific officer of Urban Kisaan Farms Private Limited Dr Sairem Reddy, on the other hand, said that the Government has been taking up to boost the country's horticulture production, with a focus on increasing exports.
Saying that Manipur has relatively limited arable land, he urged farmers to cultivate high-value crops to maximize their yields.
