Biometric Enrolment to be completed in two months

Imphal, April 30 2013:
The State Cabinet has decided to complete the biometric enrolment process which is being taken up within two months' time.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the State Cabinet today.
Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting, Education Minister M Okendro, who is also the spokesperson of the Government, informed that the Cabinet has sought the cooperation of the Ministers and MLAs in trying to complete the biometric enrolment by July 30 .
He further informed that since the Aadhar Number which is to be provided after completion of the biometric enrolment process would be very useful to the all the people of the State, the State Cabinet has also decided to advise MANITRON and IN-Media to speed up the process.
Minister Okendro said that the biometric enrolment process is being taken up under the Population Register Project in five districts of the State namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati.
Since those persons without Aadhar number would be facing problems while opening accounts in banks and post offices, people should help in the speedy completion of biometric enrolment.
Only those residents who have Aadhar number would be eligible for benefits under Central Government and state Government schemes such as MGNREGS, IAY, NSAP, Ajeevika, NOAPS, etc, he added.
Today's Cabinet meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director (Census), Deputy Commissioner and staffs and representatives of MANITRON and In-Media.
According to reliable sources, as of now, 51.89% of the biometric enrollment process has been completed in Imphal East, 45.24% in Imphal East; 32.96% in Chandel; 20.06% in Tamenglong and 29.98% in Churachandpur district.
