SAANs campaign, National Newborn week launched

Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia (SAANs) and National Newborn week was kicked off today at District Hospital Thoubal.
The event organised by District Health Society, Thoubal was attended by Chief Medical Officer Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul Singh as chief guest, Medical Superintendent District Hospital Thoubal, Dr W Ruhinikumar as president and District Programme Manager, Ch Basanta Singh and Md Riyas Sheikh, District Community Mobilizer as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr W Ruhinikumar Singh stated that ASHA workers must play a crucial role in spreading awareness to prevent Pneumonia in children.
He continued that stridor are not the only sign of Pneumonia.
If a child continues coughing for more than 28 days, immediate medical attention must be given, said Ruhinikumar.
He continued that hygiene, breast-feeding and timely immunization plays an important factor to prevent from Pneumonia Dr Y Nokul, CMO Thoubal called for cooperation from Community Health Officers, nurses during SAANs Campaign and National Newborn Week to create awareness of Pneumonia.
