Imphal, February 26 2009: Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat has reportedly told a delegation of MPP that he will intimate the Centre to instruct the NSCN-IM to strictly abide by the ceasefire ground rules and also to fold up the designated camps of the NSCN-IM in Manipur.

A delegation of MPP leaders led by its president Dr L Chandramani today called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan here to submit a memorandum.

The Governor further told the delegation that he has learnt all about the happenings in Manipur and he understood the desire of the people.

He will apprise the Centre of all these, the Governor is reported to have assured the the delegation.

In the meantime, MPP today submitted another memorandum to Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh on the issue of the gruesome murder of the Kasom Khullen SDO and his two subordinate staff, urging him to instruct the Union Home Minister to press the NSCN-IM to hand over the cadres of the outfit involved in the killing of the three employees of the state government, and award befitting punishment under the law of the land.

In the memorandum, the MPP also asserted that while the party supports the Centre's initiative for peace talk, it would have to object to the process if it affects the territorial integrity of the state and is against the interest of the people of the state.

In this regard, the MPP also called upon the Prime Minister to fold up the designated camps which are reported to be in full operation in Chandel, Tamenglong and Senapati districts.

With the ongoing peace talk between the GoI and the NSCN-IM, the MPP suggested that the Manipur government was also made a party of the peace talk.

The MPP suggested that the party could be a part of a tripartite talk should it be more successful.

The party called upon the central government to take up necessary action against the Naga rebels asserting that in the name of peaceful processes and political solutions, the peace and harmony of the state of Manipur with various ethnic groups, tribes and communities have been disturbed with heinous and unheard crimes being committed.

The MPP also asserted that the patience and tolerance of the people of the state have been tested to the limits.

Further asserting that there seems to be no other options, the regional party of the state also demanded a complete stoppage of any further peace processes and called upon the prime minister to declare the NSCN-IM "Illegal and proscribed or terrorist organisation" in the interest of the people of Manipur.

In the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister the MPP also highlights the various disturbances caused by the outfit in the state especially the case of LPG bullet tankers, the unofficial designated camp at Shiroi in Ukhrul district, the murder of workers and woodcutters by the outfit at Maphou Dam and Yangnoi and the latest murder of the SDO and his two staffs besides various illegal taxations.

In this regard, the leaders of the party also met the governor of the state later in the evening and also submitted a copy of the memo.

Besides submitting a memo to the Prime Minister, the MPP also held a sit-in-protest in front of its office in the heart of the Imphal city Thursday afternoon against the brutal murder of the SDO and two others and condemned the very act.

Addressing the meeting, member of legislative assembly (MLA), O Joy asserted that the people of the state have suffered much due to various disturbances such as killings, lootings and kidnap for ransoms..

The leader of the party held that those revolutionary organisations giving unbearable disturbances to the people of Manipur should be declared terrorist groups and called upon the state and central government to take serious note of the present condition of the state.

MLA R K Anand, also addressing the meeting observed that instead of bringing peace through various peace talks, the state of Manipur was burning on too many different issues at the moment and opined that the state would have to come up with volunteers of its own to protect itself if the state government was unable to protect the people of the state.

The leader of the party also observed that the NSCN-IM was turning away from its original stance of peace and turning towards a terrorist group and called upon the organisation to return to its original stance for peace for the betterment of the state.

The president of the party, Dr Chandramani while welcoming the peace talk between the GoI and the Naga rebels for peace held that the party was not opposed to hill or valley based organisations that were in favour of peace.

The president however warned that MPP would not tolerate anyone trying to disturb the integrity of the state in the name of revolution or even trying to create communal crisis or any other disturbance to the general public.
