Science Meet, 2012 concludes

The five-day long Science Meet, 2012 which was jointly organized by Manipur Science and Technology (MASTEC), Imphal, STFM, MAPS, MACA and GENIM concluded today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal.
The valedictory function was graced by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that science has become an integral part of our life.
Science can no longer be confined to a few devoted scientists and technologists.
"We are living in the age of science and technology and most of our activities are controlled and fashioned by science right from the cradle to the grave.
It has therefore been recognised as a driving force behind all human progress", he added.
The Chief Minister further stated that scientific capability is what determines the ability to overcome the challenges which lie ahead.
The state has been facing new challenges like scarcity of resources, diseases and food security, etc.
These problems can be avoided and success achieved only if the quality of institutions of Science and Technology is maintained.
There is no escaping the truth that the nations of the world have to move to a low greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficient development path.
All over the world, countries are chalking out strategies to achieve greater energy efficiency and a shift to renewable source of energy, he observed, and added "We must not lag behind in these areas and plan to be among the leaders in the development of science and technology.
As far as energy is concerned, clean energy sources need to be harnessed much more than what we do today" .
Pointing out that MASTEC should have a strong outward orientation for creating a platform for science popularization, technology transfer and to encourage innovators in the state, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the time has come to give a new boost to science and technology in the state and MASTEC has to take the lead.
LP Gonmei, Principal Secretary (Science and Technology), Executive Director of MASTEC Surendranath were also present on the occasion.
The dignitaries also distributed prizes and awards to winners of various competitions held during the meet.
In the sub-junior group of the Spot Painting Competition Ankita Moirangthem (Class V) of Maria Montessori Sr Secondary School; AbrahamNongthongbam (Class IV) of Christ Jyoti School, Mantripukhri and Naongpoknganba Soram (Class V) of Mega Manipur School, Yaralpat bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
In the junior group of the Spot Painting Competition, Yumnam Rahul (class VII) of Blooming Dale School, Imphal; Rajkumari Karishma (Class VII) of Little Flower School, Imphal and Olina Rajkumari (Class VIII) of Mega Manipur School, Yaralpat bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
In its senior group, Kshetrtimayum Rojesh (class XII) ofModel Higher Secondary School, Imphal, Laiphrakpam Roshan(class IX) of Regular English School, Imphal and Asem Indrajit (class X) of The Brilliant Public School, Samrou bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
In the Late Takhellambam Ibohal Singh Memorial Science Quiz Competition, the team from Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal led by Moirangthem, Boby and Md Tamijur Rahman bagged the first prize; the team from Herbert School, Changangei led bySonia Naorem and Keisham Tampha Ibema bagged the second prize; another the team from Herbert School, Changangei led by KeishamChaoba and Ke Lairenjam bagged the third prize.
In the Declamation contest, Malemnganba Sanasam (class X) of JNV, Thoubal, Ningthoujam Asharani (class XII) of Herbert School, Changangei and Parikshit Thoudam (class XII) of Sainik School, Imphal bagged the first, second and third prize respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Science Model Competition, the team led by Dolly Ahongshangbam and Moirangthem Langamba of Manipur Standard English School, Kakwa was awarded the first prize; the team from Maria Montessori Senior Secondary School, Koirengei led by Phanjaobam Dafneshan and Yoihenba Huidrom was conferred the second prize and the team of Halleey English School, Imphal bagged the third prize respectively.
The Best Guide Teacher award was conferred to Siddhesh Irom of Maria Montessori Senior Secondary School, Koirengei.
