Sit-in continues against arrest of village volunteers

Imphal, January 31 2025: Haoreibi Apunba Meira Paibi Lup staged a sit-in protest today at Haoreibi Kangjeibung Mapal Community Hall against the killing of a village volunteer and arrest of six other village volunteers by security forces on December 14, 2024 at Salungpham.

During the protest, placards which read, "We condemn killing of student", "Stop arresting village volunteers", "Transfer Thoubal SP to either Churachandpur of Kangpokpi", "Terminate thosd police personnel involved in Salungpham firing incident", "Repeal AFSPA, 1958 from Manipur", "Resign irresponsible CM and other leaders", etc were used during the protest and similar slogans were raised by the protesters.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Haoreibi Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, secretary, Devala Leima urged the authorities to immediately release the arrested village volunteers.
