Charge-sheet for trial of Roger murder case submitted

Along with committing the case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West has forwarded the charge-sheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Imphal of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the case over murder of Irom Roger on March 20 last year at Ghari along Imphal Airport road, to the Court of Session Judge, Manipur East for the trial motion.
According to reliable source, after the charge sheet was forwarded, the Session Judge, Manipur East has issued an order to proceed with the case on March 16 next.
The source further revealed that after the CBI investigated into the murder case of Irom Rozer s/o Irom Lokendro Singh on March 20, 2011 at Ghari along Imphal Airport road at around 2:00 pm, a charge sheet submitted to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West, where it was mentioned that the accused was one Noingthongbam Ajay (25), s/o Nongthongbam Biren of Luwangsangbam Mamang Leikai.
The charge-sheet of the CBI maintained that since sufficient evidences could not be collected against the four associates of the accused, namely Soram Raj Singh of Nagamapal Soram Leirak, Bachaspatimayum Roshinikumar Sharma alias Tolly of Brahmapur Thangapat Mapal, Thongbam Anilkumar alias Dhruba of Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai and Puyam Shiddharatha Singh alias Boy of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai Oinam Thingel Leirak, they may be discharged from the case.
The investigation into the case has been conducted by Additional SP of CBI, ACB, Imphal RK Agarwal of as IO and the charge-sheet was filed to the court of CJM Imphal West on December 16 last.
CBI investigation in the case revealed that at about 1 pm of March 20, 2011, the accused Ajay along with four other friends, Soram Raj, Anilkumar alias Dhruba, Siddharatha alias Boy and Roshnikumar alias Tony, were proceeding to drop Siddharatha at Khagempalli after enjoying a lunch at the residence of Soram Raj in the same black Bolero Jeep.
On the way, the occupants of the Bolero Jeep noticed two girls going toward Airport side on a Honda Activa.
Since it was the time of 'Holi' festival Ajay told Soram Raj to follow the girls with a view to tease them.
At that time, Rozer along with his friends were also on the way in an i-20 car.
In an attempt to overtake one another it, the accused Ajay took out his licensed M-20 pistol and fired towards the i-20 car hitting Rozer on his neck.
Rozer was immediately taken to RIMS hospital by other occupants of i-20 car but he succumbed to the bullet injury en route and doctors declared him brought dead.
The investigation of CBI also revealed that there was no threat to accused Ajay or other occupants sitting with him in the Bolero Jeep and there was no reason for him to fire on the upper portion of the body of deceased Rozer who was driving the i-20 car.
Accused Ajay was issued the weapon for his self protection and at that point of time, there was no danger to his life or any other occupants of the Bolero jeep from any of the occupants of i-20 car.
Accused Ajay had full knowledge that the firing by him could take the life of any person sitting in the i-20 car.
If at all, he wanted to frighten them, he could have fired in the air or some outer part of the i-20 car.
Firing done by accused Ajay has taken away the life of an innocent boy without any cause or provocation.
In its charge sheet, CBI observed that 'it is well established that the accused N Ajay Meitei has murdered the deceased Rozer Singh s/o I Lokendro from his licensed M-20 pistol.
Keeping in view of the available evidence, the case stands proved u/s 302 IPC & 27 Arms Act, 1959' .
