Imphal, April 08 2025:
A massive human chain was formed today at Khumidok Keithel, demanding withdrawal of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 .
Organized by the United Committee of Kairang, Khabeisoi, and Khumidok (UCKKK), the demonstration drew a large number of Meitei Pangals who contended that the legislation threatens the interests and autonomy of the Muslim community.
The protesters vowed to stage more protests until their demand is met.
Protest rallies were also taken out at Thoubal Moijing, Mayang Imphal and Wangoi against the Act.
The rallyists asserted that the Waqf (Amendment) Act violates the rights of the minority community and is unconstitutional.

"Repeal Waqf (Amendment) Act", "Owner of Waqf is Allah," and "Custodian of Waqf is Muslim Community" were some of the common placards displayed during the rallies.
Meanwhile at Khumidok, UCKKK president Manaohar Ali said that the Waqf (Amendment) Act recently passed by the Parliament undermines the rights and interests of the Muslim community.
Saying that Christians and Hindus have their own trusts with members from their respective faiths, he added that the Waqf Act, however, interferes with Islamic practices by permitting non-Muslims to join Waqf trusts.
He said the Muslim community strongly opposes the legislation.
This is not the first time the Government is targeting the Muslim community, he charged while accusing the Government of India of infringing on religious freedom despite India being a secular Nation.
Ali asserted that they will stage more democratic protests until the Act is repealed even if it leads to civil unrest.
