Imphal, April 11 2019:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has accepted NEIDP's challenge for a debate on the contentious CAB.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president and media committee convenor Jyotin Waikhom said that they are ready to debate CAB.
Jyotin said that CAB was first introduced by the then Congress Government in 1955 and it has been amended several times since then.
BJP made the latest amendment attempt last year but the Bill was not tabled in the Rajya Sabha considering the hurt sentiments of North East people.
Had the BJP-led NDA Government not considered the sentiments of North East people, CAB 2016 could have been passed by convening a joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Jyotin said.
He then asked NEIDP and Congress party to first debate on the latter's change of position regarding CAB between 1955 when it introduced the Bill and 2019 when it is opposing the same Bill.
After that NEIDP and BJP may engage in a debate over why BJP has been working to amend the Bill again, he continued.
BJP media committee member Dr Kh Loken said that BJP was elected to power in 2014 with a massive mandate as there was no economic stability and the country's internal and external security were under severe threats.
Now the BJP-led NDA Government has succeeded in pushing the country's GDP growth rate to 7.3 per cent.
There is economic stability and the country's fiscal deficit has been cut down considerably, Dr Loken claimed.
He appealed to all the electors to support the BJP candidates in the two Parliamentary Constituencies.
