Mother-son duo hurt in ZRA attack

Son and wife of founder Principal of St Peter School, Langol have been injured and hospitalised after some cadres of ZRA attacked them inside the school campus at around 9.30 am today.
According to information culled from the crime spot, three cadres came to the school and inquired about the founder Principal Songlianlal this morning.
As Songlianlal's wife Manpi (50) recognised one of the men as ZRA cadre, she told them that the Principal was not there.
However, Songlianlal's son Liankhanson (28) talked with the cadres in the waiting room of the school.
In the midst of their talk, one of the cadres suddenly whipped out a small arm and opened fire at Liankhanson and Manpi.
The mother was hit by a bullet on her left arm and the son on his right shoulder.
Although the assailants fled the scene immediately, locals chased them and captured one of them.
They bashed up the man and handed over to police while the mother-son duo were rushed to Shija Hospitals, Langol.

The captured man has been identified as Thangboi Tungdim (34) s/o KG Tungdim of Churachandpur district.
One .38 pistol loaded with five live rounds was seized from his possession.
Police recovered an empty case and a projectile from the waiting room where the mother-son duo talked with the ZRA cadres.
Meanwhile, locals of the area while decrying the incident demanded that the Govt nab the two other cadres who had fled the crime scene.
Lamphel Police Station has started investigation into the incident by registering a case.
Meanwhile, Thangboi has been remanded to police custody after producing before the Court.
Principal Songlianlal contested in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election although ZRA had threatened him not to contest in the said election, said a family source.
The Principal got threats from the outfit even after the elections.
When contacted, Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh J Babu said that even though ZRA is one of the signitories to suspension of operation pact with the Government, the outfit's cadres moving out of the designated camp with arms is a violation of the agreement's ground rules.
Meanwhile, Young Paite Association has condemned the attack.
the association termed the incident as senseless as it happened inside school campus where school children were there.
It observed that such incidents should be avoided by everyone.
