Following an understanding arrived at during a meeting with Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh today, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the killing of Soram Rojit of Kangpokpi who was shot dead by Imphal East District Police Commandos during an alleged encounter at Hapta Golapati on the night of February 15, has called off its proposed bandh on February 19 .
According to chairman of the JAC Haokholun Guite, during the meeting with the Chief Minister which was also attended by the local MLA Thangminlien Kipgen, the State Government on its part has assured every possible assistance including a suitable job offer to the bereaved family.
Consequently, the JAC has decided to call off its proposed 48-hour bandh from tomorrow, the chairman said.
As a result of the understanding reached between the two parties, the body of Rojit which has been laying at the mortuary of RIMS has also been taken over by his bereaved family members after post-mortem examination today.
