Imphal, July 18 2017:
Project Suvigya is a pension portal started by PCDA (Pensions) to enable all veterans and their dependants to check that there pension is being credited at prevalent rates.
However, most of the veterans in the North Eastern States are unable to have direct access to the portal due to lack of awareness and unavailability of internet.
During the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) rallies held in the past, it was realised that a large number of ESM were not even aware of their entitlements and were drawing incorrect pension.
Lack of awareness both at the pensioners end as well as the pension disbursing authorities had led to large amount of entitlements not getting released to the veterans .
A statement issued by the PIB, Defence, Imphal informed that a pilot project to address pension anomalies of the ex-servicemen of the region was started by Khuga Battalion since July 2016.A steering team comprising of JCO and NCOs was created at Khuga .
The team first collated complete data pertaining to various pension related policies and amendments issued in due course.
The team then began interacting with veterans in Churachandpur district and started processing their pension related anomalies.
The team also started reaching out to ESMs including Veer Naris in the area of responsibility through pamphlets, local newspapers and TV channels.
All checks and calculations are done based on latest pension entitlements to the individuals and anomalies, at any are raised with the concerned banks or with the Govt treasury .
Since July 2016, Khuga Battalion has taken up 305 cases of pension anomalies in respect of ESM & Veer Naris with Government Treasury and concerned banks to rectify the discrepancy and release the amounts as per entitlement.
The overall reimbursement due to ESM and Veer Naris amounted to Rs 2,53,84,823 and out of this 151 ESM have already been credited with an amount of Rs 1,06,86,236 through banks and treasury into their pension accounts.
