Protest rally against bills & Assembly resolution on Naga pact

Thousands of people on Tuesday took part in a protest rally held in Senapati District Headquarters condemning the three Bills and the two resolutions passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 .
The protest rally began from Senapati Public Ground and headed towards Vakho (new Karong) and returned back, culminating at the Public Ground.
Prominent Naga civil society organisation leaders of United Naga Council (UNC); All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM); Naga Women Union (NWU) and Naga Peoples' Organiation (NPO) addressed the rally.
The rally participants held placards which read "We support Indo-Naga Peace Accord"; "we demand withdrawal of Anti-Tribal Bills"; "Tribal MLAs resign for your people"; "Don't encroach on tribal lands"; "Withdraw anti-tribal bills" and "expedite peace deal" .

UNC President Gaidon Kamei said the historic "Indo-Naga Peace Accord" signed between Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim or NSCM (IM) and Government of India on August 3 will reach its logical conclusion based on the uniqueness of Naga history and its situation.
He said that the Government of India has now realised the uniqueness of the Naga history and alleged that the State Government was trying to "sabotage and derail" the peace accord.
Gaidon Kamei appealed all to be cautious of "deceptive conspiracies" of the State Government through the three Bills passed on August 31.He pointed out, "The land you own is not given by the British or the Government of Manipur, but it is God given.
We should protect it boldly by being united." He said if any forces attempted to grab Naga ancestral homeland, they will never stay as silent spectators.
The UNC President also appealed all Naga political groups to come together "by forgetting all the past" .
Gaidon Kamei also alleged that Chief Minister O Ibobi's "strength lies in his state security forces and militarization of tribal areas" .
The killing of nine persons at Churachandpur Town was also condemned during the rally.
Meanwhile, ANSAM President Seth Shatsang has alleged that the policies of the Manipur Government were aimed at muting the voice of the tribals communities.
Later, a memorandum jointly signed by UNC, ANSAM, NWU, NPMHR, NPO, Tribe Hohos, of Poumai, Mao, Maram, Thangal and Zeliangrong, Senapati Zone, and other Frontal Organization of the Senapati District was submitted to the Prime Minister of India through the Senapati DC.
During the protest rally, business establishments remained shut and vehicles were off the National Highway (NH-2).The day was also declared "Genna" (abstaining from all normal works) for all citizens of the District.NPO under the aegis of UNC and Naga Frontal Organizations decided to urge the Government of India to "translate and expedite the framework agreement of the Indo-Naga peace accord" .
