Bills For Protection Of Indigenous People Likely To Have Smooth Sail Today

Imphal, August 30 2015 : Three Bill introduced in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 28 are likely to have a smooth sail on Monday.

The Bills - The Protection of Manipur Peoples (PMP) Bill, 2015; The Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (MLR&R) (7th Amendment) Bill 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishment (MS&E) (2nd Amendment) Bill 2015 will be passed without much hiccups, sources informed.

It may be mentioned that the three Bills were introduced during the emergency sitting of the 11th Session (Part-III) of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 28 .

The three Bills had been introduced after the State Government signed an agreement with the Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on August 25 .

The State government took the step in response to almost two-month long continuous mass agitation demanding the implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

Observers have noted that if the three Bills are passed and become Acts, the State authorities will be empowered to control the unabated flow of migrants into the State.

This will eventually protect the interests of all indigenous communities in Manipur.

JCILPS appeals people to extend solidarity .

Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILP) has appealed the people to extend solidarity with the movement for the implementation of a system that will protect the indigenous communities from being swamped by migrants.

In a press release, JCILPS Assistant media coordinator Md Kheirudin Shah Moijingmayum has appealed all to extend solidarity with the movement and stand united.

He requested all to seek "blessings from God" and to continue the ongoing sit-in protests raising relevant slogans so that the Bills introduced in the Assembly will be passed on Monday.
