Student leaders urge for free and fair Law College poll

Imphal, April 27 2012: Student bodies namely AMSU, DESAM, MSF, KSA, SUAK and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) have jointly appealed to both the students and teachers of LMS Law College to contribute their mite in ensuring free and fair stu dents' union election scheduled for May 7. Speaking on the behalf of the student bodies at SUK office today, AMSU general secretary N Depanjit said the 11 point guidelines of the Monitoring Cell of the College Students' Union Election 2011 and 2012 should be followed by the election contestants and teaching faculties of the college to avoid poll-related problems.

Regretting that past few elections of the Law College were marred by violence and other unwanted incidents, he opined that adherence to the guidelines will ensure that there is no breach in the sanctity of the revered institution.

As election to the student's , union remained suspended.

Informing that the election code of conduct will be effective from April 28 onward, he said contestants may collect form on May 3 and submit the same within May 4 for scrutiny process would be taken up on the next day.

Regarding the guidelines, he said poll-related, campaigning should be within the college campus, one poster of each of the candidates of A3 size should be put up at a suitable place within the college boundary.

There would be total prohibition on house campaigning or pick-up, organising tea party, feast entertaining programmes would not be allowed, outsiders barred from entering college campus and debate/ symposium for the contesting candidates should be organised to enable the student voters choose the right candidate Depanjit also cautioned that in case of violating the code of conduct/guidelines the defaulting candidate would be asked to resign even if he/she wins the election.
