MMWO urges Govt to resolve MU impasse, resurvey BP 81

Imphal, July 20 2018: Manipur Muslim Welfare Organization (MMWO) has urged the State Government to resolve the Manipur University (MU) impasse and resurvey the Border Pillar 81 with the involvement of all stakeholders, intellectuals and experts from the State while demanding all 60 legislators in the Manipur Legislative Assembly to discuss at length all the major issues prevailing in the State in the Assembly session.

Addressing a press meet held today at its head office at Hatta, MMWO president Phundreimayum Abdullah Pathan pointed out that the State is currently embroiled in a number of sensitive issues, namely the long standing MU impasse, Border Pillar controversy, alleged separate territorial council formation within the State and the ILP issue.

He went on to ask why the Central Government has been in favour of the MU's VC AP Pandey till now when many controversies have cropped up in Manipur University after he took charge as the VC and the students of the university and all educational institutions have been bearing the brunt of the controversy for almost two months now.

Saying that there are many qualified professors in the university itself and in the State fit enough to become the VC, he lamented that CM Biren and his Government does not have the capability to resolve even a crisis in Manipur University.

Noting that the State had lost many portions of its land to Myanmar and other States in the past, Abdullah Pathan has also expressed concern that the prevailing Border Pillar dispute should be resurveyed with the involvement of stakeholders, experts and intellectuals from the State and to try and save the State's territory.

He decried the Central Govt's indifference towards Manipur saying that the Central Government had flexed its muscle and fought tooth and nail to protect even an inch of the territory of Kashmir but now, it is remaining silent even when three kilometres of Manipur's territory have been lost to Myanmar.

Such attitude of the Central Government may compel the people of the State to demand the status of premerger agreement, he warned.

He also claimed that the organization has received information from a reliable source that a separate Territorial Council will be formed within the State in connection with the Naga Peace Talk and declared that the organization and people of the State will not tolerate such things in the State.

It is doubtful whether a Government that cannot even solve a crisis of the university, will be able to protect the State when the matter of formation of a separate Territorial Council comes up, he opined adding that MMWO welcomes Naga Peace Talk but will oppose anything that will harm the State in any possible way.

He then asked all the legislators in the Manipur State Assembly to discuss at length the prevailing issues in the State in the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly Session.
