Imphal, April 17 2024:
The Communist Party of lndia, Manipur State Council (CPI/MSC) and All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Manipur have strongly condemned the incident that happened on Tuesday between Kaimai village and Tollen Kuki village along NH 37, where 5 trucks including one LPG bullet tanker and four oil tankers were allegedly ambushed by Kuki miscreants.
In separate releases, CPI/MSC and AITUC Manipur said that the attack carried out on the convoy of goods carriers with a sinister motive to obstruct supply of essential commodities to the State is a crime against humanity and should be condemned by every right thinking citizen.
CPI and AITUC lamented the failure of the Government to prevent such attacks and protect the truck drivers who are providing their service to ensure there is no shortage of essential commodities in the State during this difficult time.
They also claimed that neither the Centre nor the State Government have taken up any concrete measures till date to control highway crimes being perpetrated by armed miscreants for decades.
They appealed to the Government to establish a Highway Protection Force (HPF) to safeguard the National Highways, protect transporters, drivers and helpers of vehicles plying along the highways and facilitate free passage of vehicles carrying passengers & essential commodities.
CPI and AITUC also urged the Government to provide necessary assistance to the four drivers who were injured during the attack.
Further, CPI and AITUC warned of launching an intense stir with the support of its allied organisations & Driver Union if the Government does take immediate action to book all the miscreants involved in the attack and deploy HPF along the National Highways at the earliest.
