Local clubs distribute rice to widows

Local clubs and meira paibis of Yairipok Top Chingtha organised a rice distribution programme for widows at the community hall of Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi, Top Chingtha sponsored by the Widows And Orphan Resource Development Trust (WORDT).
The local clubs include Top-chingtha Youth Progressive Organisation (TYPO), Nongpok Ningthou Youth Association (NNYA) and Laimanai Youth Club Yairipok (LYCY).
The programme was graced by Maibam Nodyachand Meitei, president, Lai Committee of Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Top-Chingtha as the chief guest; N Gunindro, author, WORDT as the functional president and W Bijiya Devi, founder member WORDT; Th Suren, Yairipok Branch Manager; P Arun, president, TYPO; L Sanjit, president, LYCY; S Kennedy, president, NNYA; N Pishak Devi, president, Top-Chingtha Meira Paibi; Y Inaobi Devi, leader, Thoubal District Womens' Wing and Kh Premkumar, Loan Manager, Thoubal Branch as the guests of honour.
Roughly 350 beneficiaries received rice today at the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, W Bjijiya Devi stated that mostly women bear the brunt of running a household.
The rice distribution programme was conducted to alleviate some of the difficulties faced by the widows and encourage them with a display of public support, she added.
She pointed out that similar programmes are being conducted in other districts as well.
Meanwhile WORDT author N Gunindro educated the gathering about various welfare activities undertaken by the Trust in the interest of the public.
