Imphal, April 19 2010:
In the face of the stepped-up agitation by employees for payment of arrears together with salaries in the pay scales recommended by the 6th Central Pay Commission, the Ministerial team constituted to look into the demands of the employees met today.
The meeting presided by Revenue Minister Th Debendra was also attended by other members of the team, Power Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Health Minister Ph Parijat.
The meeting made a comprehensive study of the present financial position of the State as well as the amount being recommended to the 13th Finance Commission.
According to the State Government's calculation, implementation of the 6th Pay Commission's recommendations would mean incurring a deficit of Rs 50 crores every month.
After deliberating on the JAC's contention that adequate funds are reflected in the 13th Finance Commission, the meeting directed the Principal Secretary (Finance) to look into the contention once again.
As the modalities of the talk and technical matters of the current financial position of the State which should be put forward to the striking employees could not be finalised, the scheduled meeting between the Ministerial team and the employees could not be held today.
The ministerial team will meet tomorrow again before negotiating with the employees shortly after.
After today's meeting, Principal Secretary (Finance) AN Jha called on the Chief Minister.
