CCSK urges political parties to take firm stand on SoO

Imphal, July 11 2024: The Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) has urged all political parties to take a firm position against Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement and announce the same to the public.

Recalling how Kukis started their aggression by killing Meitei people and burning down Meitei villages on May 3, 2023 in the name of a solidarity rally, a statement issued by CCSK said that Chin-Kuki-Zo militants have been attacking Meitei villages since then.

With their designated camps surrounding the valley districts, the Chin-Kuki-Zo militants find it quite convenient to attack the Meitei villages located in peripheral areas. Pointing out that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is still in force in the State except for areas covered by 19 police stations in the valley districts, CCSK questioned the failure of the security forces to control these militants.

Security forces may say that these militant groups are under SoO agreement with the Government of India but these Chin-Kuki-Zo militant groups have not been abiding by the SoO ground rules, it said.

Rather than controlling these militants, certain security agencies seem to be supporting the militants in attacking Meitei villages, it alleged.

It went on to question why the Government has been turning a blind eye to the fact that the violent conflict was started by the Chin-Kuki-Zo militants and the acts of terrorism were unleashed by them.

The only way to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur is by way of neutralising the Chin-Kuki-Zo terrorists who have been terrorising the Meitei people by taking undue advantage of the SoO agreement, CCSK asserted.

At the same time, political parties must stop all blame games and hoodwinking the people, it said.

Rather, all political parties must take firm positions against the SoO agreement and announce the same to the people, and exert pressure on the Central Government to abrogate the SoO agreement, it asserted.

CCSK further appealed to all political parties not to act or speak in such a manner which may give undue advantage to the adversary in the future in the name of working for peace.
