Displaced woman battles all odds to perform as Pala artist

Imphal, January 31 2025:
Battling all odds, an inmate from Sawombung Temporary Shelter Home has embarked on a traditional career path as a Pala artiste/singer and presented her first performance at a wedding ceremony in Kyamgei Mayai Leikai.
Thounaojam Romita Chanu was bom to Th Dhananjoy and Th (O) Yaimabi from Gwaltabi.
They have been staying at the Sawombung Temporary Shelter Home for two years.
It is worth noting that Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) organised training programs at different relief camps under the guidance of a group of tutors including Konsam Indira Leima (Pung, Esei, Jagoi and Pena teacher of LSTB) last year.
Thounaojam Romita has expressed gratitude and joy upon being given a worthwhile career after receiving adequate training from the LSTB mentors through the training program.
In a heartfelt gesture, Konsam Indira presented the trainee with a Phanek Mayek Naiba in time for her debut performance as a Pala artiste.
Currently, LSTB is offering classes on Pung, Esei, Jagoi and Thang-Ta every Sunday at the relief camps in Wangkhei, Lamboikhongnangkhong, Thangmeiband and Sawombung.
So far, they have successfully produced two Pala singers from relief camps.
The other is Chanambam Alpana Chanu staying at Wangkhei High School Relief Camp who originally hails from Serou.
She performed for the first time at a wedding ceremony in Kongpal Chanam Leikai in November, 2024 .
